Go together well

Five years ago today, two of my dearest friends got married! It's hard to believe how much can happen in five years! Vickie got a PhD in biochemistry from the University of California-Irvine, she and Dan had a baby (who is now one!), and they moved back to the middle of the country for Dan to get a PhD at KU in Lawrence, Kansas. I got an MD and MPH, got a puppy, got married, moved from Chicago to Omaha to Baltimore to Burlington, and started residency. Even crazier is that last weekend was my 10 year high school reunion! I wasn't able to make it home for the celebration, and I both can't and can believe that it has been 10 years. I have changed so much since 2003--and I can't say I'm especially sad that I wasn't able to see the temporary posting of the class of 2003 slideshow on the Sidney High School website ! 

So...I made it through my first day in the emergency room. I arrived 45 minutes early (just to be safe), and the day went fairly well overall. Of course, I was far from perfect...I accidentally introduced myself as Michelle to the first few patients, occasionally forgot that I am allowed to make medical decisions (transferring a patient, giving medications, etc.)...and forgot my pager at home (so when the radiologist was attempting to reach me to tell me that the ultrasound I ordered to rule out a DVT [blood clot] had actually   ruled in a blood clot...I didn't respond, and he angrily called my attending. Oh well. At least I was obsessively checking the ultrasound result so that I had already known what he was paging to tell me! I hope that I managed everyone appropriately and that everyone I treated today is safely home and doing well. The end of my "last weekend" before starting work is almost here...it continues to be surreal. Our living situation has continued to be somewhat transitory also: we stayed in a hotel Thursday and Friday nights so that our kind landlords could get moved out without an anxious black lab following their movers around (Tessie doesn't like when people pack and carry boxes around).  On Friday, the family medicine interns did a scavenger hunt of the hospital and clinic to learn our way around. I learned that the hospital (like most academic medical centers) is a maze of buildings of various ages connected by ad hoc hallways...so that should be an adventure! On Friday evening, Chris joined me for the "Hail & Farewell" ceremony at the Burlington Country Club . {Chris's childhood climbing tree} In the past week, I've driven 1,817 miles through 9 states. Chris joined me for the first half (from Baltimore to Chicago) to have "one last party" at his parents' house before they move (tomorrow) from the house where they've lived for 24 years. We had a great time seeing friends and going through old clothes, yearbooks, and school art projects. After spending a few days in Chicago, I headed to Lawrence, Kansas, to visit my dear friends Vickie and Dan--and their beautiful almost-1-year-old Suzanna. Today I made it to Sidney , where I'll be for a few days before making the trek to Burlington!

We've had 3 overripe bananas in the fridge for several months, and I've been meaning to turn them into a delicious baked item...so today I used this recipe and made some really good banana bread. I think this will be my go-to recipe from now on. {best banana bread I've ever made} I also booked a moving company (ABF/UPack) for May 21...so soon! We'll "officially" move out on May 31, but all our stuff will be gone by the end of the day on the 21st. We'll be living out of suitcases for a month until our UPack boxes are delivered to our place in South Burlington on June 24 (which also happens to be my first day of work--yikes!) It should be interesting! P.S.
